CROESUS

Croesus is the name of our new property at Collinsvale. It is pronounced 'Kreesus" . My dad named the property after a cave he has explored at Mole Creek in North West Tasmania. It is one of his most favourite caves. When we find some pictures of the cave we will add them here. The original Croesus was a rich and powerful Lydian King and has come to mean "Rich and Prosperous" and in this case is used to describe how we feel about the place. Rich and Prosperous can be in anything from health and happiness to life's blessings. Croesus was also known for his hospitality and hence the word "croesus" has come to mean welcome in Welsh (so we are told).

Part 1 The Planning

Diary

August 14th 2004. Settlement date is the 26th of August 2004 and yet the owner has kindly allowed us to start transferring our collection of fruit and native trees to the block.

As you can imagine there is much excitement with planning the house, unit and shed especially considering that Samuel  will make his appearance any day (night) now. (Arrived 1:35am on September 14th 2004)

The idea is to build a house big enough for our family with an attached unit for my dad as he has had a few health concerns that mean he really needs someone around during the day. As my brothers and sister both work and I am a Stay at Home mum it made sense that he either move in with us or us with him and as neither property/house was suitable we are building a suitable dwelling. What dad and I did was measure the current size of rooms in our current houses and where the deficiency was in size then draw up a 'jigsaw' and rearrange all the pieces into a simple but effective design. Our part of the house is the same size in squares as our current house only it is a better use of space. Dad's part is almost the same size he just loses a bedroom.

This plan shows Dads' part of the dwelling. There will be a communing door in the solid brick wall between the rumpus and lounge 2. That will go in once the certificate of residence is cleared.  Dads' front door si the door next to to he kitchen and our front door is in the rumpus room just along from dads door. From Dads laundry door to our far corner of the house is a concrete patio/verandah 2 metres wide with a clear laserlite roof over.  For perspective of size both bedrooms are 4000m X 4000m (4metres by 4 metres) and the lounge is 6 metres wide by 8 metres long. The rumpus room is just over 5 metres wide by 9 metres long.

This is our part of the house. Once again all the bedrooms are 4X4 metres and our lounge is 7X9metres.
